Second Comprehensive Scientific Expedition to the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau
The Second Comprehensive Scientific Expedition to the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau in 2017 focused on the key scientific issue of earth system change and its impact on the plateau. This expedition explored issues such as changes in Xizang and their impacts, ecosystem and biodiversity changes, the environmental impact of human activities and adaptation, and disaster risks and responses. The expedition primarily examined the processes and mechanisms of environmental change over the past 50 years and their impact on human society. It proposed a scientific plan for the strategic assessment of resource prospects and green development paths. The expedition has promoted the establishment of an earth system-based scientific research platform for the integrated protection, restoration, and governance of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, deserts, and glaciers on the plateau. This effort has established a scientific project to address environmental changes on the plateau, ensuring the safety of Xizang and its ecological barriers and contributing to the development of the plateau as a model in ecological progress.
